Fluffy sausage and cheese breakfast biscuits baked in butter—perfect for a hearty morning meal. Easy, quick, and satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz breakfast sausage

  • 1½ cups shredded Colby Jack cheese

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 1¾ cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

  • 1½ cups buttermilk

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F. Cut butter into chunks and place in a microwave-safe 8- or 9-inch square baking dish. Microwave until fully melted.

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sausage until it’s no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease.

  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the cooked sausage and shredded cheese. Stir in the buttermilk until a loose, sticky dough forms.

  • Remove the baking dish with melted butter from the microwave. Gently press the dough into the butter-filled pan, spreading it evenly. Lightly flour your hands or the top of the dough if needed.

  • Score the dough into 9 squares using a knife.

  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the butter is mostly absorbed.

  • Let cool slightly before serving.
