  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • ¼ cup soy sauce

  • ¼ cup water

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch


Instructions

 

  • Prep the Chicken:
    Pat the chicken thighs dry using paper towels, then season both sides with salt and pepper.

  • Cook the Chicken:
    Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil, then place the chicken in the pan. Sear until browned and cooked through, about 5–6 minutes per side.

  • Make the Teriyaki Sauce:
    In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, water, garlic powder, ground ginger, and cornstarch until smooth and fully dissolved.

  • Add the Sauce:
    Once the chicken is browned, pour the sauce into the skillet. Stir to coat the chicken. Let the sauce simmer for 2–3 minutes, or until thickened to your liking.

  • Serve:
    Let the chicken rest briefly, then slice and serve over white rice. Garnish with chopped scallions or sesame seeds, if desired.
