Ingredients
For the Fried Mushrooms:
-
1 lb button or cremini mushrooms, sliced
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
1/2 cup cornmeal (optional, for extra crunch)
-
2 large eggs
-
1/4 cup milk
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1 teaspoon paprika
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
-
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Ranch Dip:
-
1/2 cup mayonnaise
-
1/2 cup sour cream
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1 teaspoon onion powder
-
1 teaspoon dried dill
-
1 teaspoon dried parsley
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
-
1–2 tablespoons milk (to thin the dip, if needed)
Instructions
1. Make the Ranch Dip
In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, dill, parsley, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth.
Add milk one tablespoon at a time to reach your desired consistency. Cover and refrigerate until serving.
2. Prepare the Coating
In one bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal (if using), garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
In another bowl, beat the eggs with the milk.
3. Coat the Mushrooms
Dip each mushroom slice into the egg mixture, then coat it in the flour mixture.
Place the coated slices on a plate and let them sit for 5 minutes to help the batter stick.
4. Fry the Mushrooms
In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F.
Fry the mushrooms in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
Cook for 2–3 minutes per batch, or until golden and crisp.
Transfer to a paper towel–lined plate to drain excess oil.
5. Serve
Arrange the fried mushrooms on a serving platter. Serve immediately with the chilled ranch dip on the side.
