  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
  • Optional Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Peel, core, and slice apples into thin, even pieces (about 1/4-inch thick).
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix eggs, melted butter, milk, and vanilla until well combined.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined.
  6. Fold in the sliced apples until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  7. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  8. For the crumb topping, combine flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a medium bowl.
  9. Add the cold cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  10. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the cake batter.
  11. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  12. Allow to cool for at least 20-30 minutes before slicing.
  13. For the optional glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth, then drizzle over the cooled cake.
