cheesy pasta bake

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced (optional)
  • 23 garlic cloves, minced (optional)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
  • 2 Tbsp fresh basil, chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil or cooking spray for greasing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook spaghetti for 2 minutes less than package directions. Drain thoroughly.
  3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  4. Add onions and garlic (if using) and cook until softened, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using). Simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, whisk eggs until smooth. Stir in ricotta cheese and half of both the parmesan and mozzarella cheeses.
  7. Add the slightly undercooked spaghetti to the cheese mixture, tossing until evenly coated.
  8. Fold in about 3/4 of the meat sauce mixture.
  9. Transfer the pasta mixture to your prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  10. Top with remaining meat sauce and sprinkle with reserved mozzarella and parmesan cheeses.
  11. Cover loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  12. Remove foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly.
  13. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
