Beef Broccoli Mushroom Stir Fry

beef broccoli recipe

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 cups broccoli florets, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (cremini, button, or shiitake)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 34 green onions, sliced diagonally (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef sirloin thinly against the grain. Pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil until smooth.
  3. Add the sliced beef to the sauce mixture, tossing to coat evenly. Allow to marinate for 10-15 minutes at room temperature.
  4. While the beef marinates, prepare your vegetables and have everything ready beside the stove.
  5. Heat a large wok or skillet over high heat. Add 1 tablespoon vegetable oil and heat until shimmering.
  6. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, stirring constantly for 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  7. Add the marinated beef (with marinade) to the pan in a single layer. Let sear for 30 seconds before stirring. Cook for 2-3 minutes until browned but still slightly pink inside. Remove beef and set aside.
  8. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the same pan. Add broccoli florets and stir-fry for 2 minutes.
  9. Add sliced mushrooms and continue stir-frying for another 2-3 minutes until broccoli is bright green and crisp-tender.
  10. Return the beef to the pan with any accumulated juices. Toss everything together for 1-2 minutes until well combined and heated through.
  11. If the sauce seems too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons of water to reach desired consistency.
  12. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  13. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds if desired.
  14. Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For more tender beef, freeze the meat for 20 minutes before slicing.
  • Make sure your pan is very hot before adding ingredients for proper searing and to prevent steaming.
  • This recipe is versatile – feel free to add other vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or snow peas.
