Blackberry Brie Bacon Sandwich

blackberry bacon sandwich

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices sturdy artisanal bread (sourdough or ciabatta)
  • 4 slices thick-cut bacon, cooked until crisp
  • 2 oz brie cheese, sliced (rind on or removed according to preference)
  • 1/4 cup fresh blackberries, gently sliced
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • Handful fresh arugula leaves (optional)
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp fresh thyme leaves (optional)
  • Drizzle of balsamic glaze (optional)
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt (optional)
  • Freshly cracked black pepper to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare bread slices, ensuring they’re cut to medium thickness (about 1/2 inch).
  2. Cook bacon until perfectly crisp, about 8-10 minutes over medium heat, then drain on paper towels.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add butter to the skillet and swirl to coat the surface evenly.
  5. Place both bread slices in the buttered skillet and toast until golden brown on bottom, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Flip one bread slice and immediately place brie slices on top while still in the pan.
  7. Allow brie to warm and start melting for about 1 minute while the second side toasts.
  8. Arrange sliced blackberries evenly over the melting brie, gently pressing them into the cheese.
  9. Layer crispy bacon slices on top of the blackberries, breaking pieces if necessary for even coverage.
  10. Add optional ingredients if using: honey drizzle, Dijon mustard, or thyme leaves.
  11. Add arugula if desired, creating a loose pile for better texture.
  12. Once both bread slices are golden and cheese has softened, remove from heat.
  13. Place the second toasted slice (toasted-side up) on top of your sandwich creation.
  14. Press down gently with a spatula to compress slightly, allowing the brie to bind components.
  15. Let sandwich rest for 1 minute before cutting diagonally with a sharp knife.
  16. Serve immediately while bread is still crisp and brie is warm and melty.

Notes

  • For the best flavor, use room temperature brie and fresh, ripe blackberries.
  • Choose a sturdy bread that can stand up to the moisture from the berries.
  • The optional ingredients like honey, thyme, or balsamic glaze can be mixed and matched according to your preference.
  • For a spicier variation, add a thin slice of jalapeño or a light spread of pepper jelly.
