Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, drained
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup finely diced celery
  • 2 tbsp diced red onion
  • 2 tbsp chopped dill pickles
  • 1 tsp capers, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh herbs (dill, parsley, or chives), chopped
  • 12 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Crushed crackers or toasted breadcrumbs, for topping

Instructions

  1. Drain the tuna thoroughly and place in a large mixing bowl. Use a fork to flake the tuna into desired consistency.
  2. Add mayonnaise and lemon juice, mixing gently but thoroughly to coat all tuna pieces evenly.
  3. Fold in celery, red onion, pickles, and capers, distributing them throughout the mixture.
  4. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  5. If using, incorporate shredded cheese, fresh herbs, and Dijon mustard, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with crushed crackers or breadcrumbs before serving.
  7. For best flavor, refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.
