  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 1 ½ cups half-and-half
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 (1 pound) loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices

Topping:

  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together milk, half-and-half, eggs, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  2. Layer bread slices in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Pour egg mixture over bread slices, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight (or at least 8 hours).
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Mix brown sugar, pecans, softened butter, and maple syrup together for topping.
  7. Spread topping evenly over the soaked bread.
  8. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
