Homemade Sticky Buns with Pecans

  • 1/4 cup melted butter (plus 23 tbsp for filling)

  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans, lightly toasted
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, 1 tbsp sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt if using.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten egg to the flour. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
  6. Meanwhile, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped pecans with 2-3 tbsp melted butter for the filling.
  7. Punch down the risen dough and roll into a 12×16-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  8. Spread the pecan filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border on one long edge.
  9. Starting from the opposite long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
  10. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9×13 baking dish.
  11. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  12. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  13. While baking, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze.
  14. Let the buns cool for 5-10 minutes, then drizzle with glaze while still warm.
  15. Serve warm for best flavor and texture.
