Homemade Tartar Sauce

  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh dill

  • 1 tablespoon minced red onion or shallot (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon capers brine (optional, for extra tanginess)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped capers, fresh lemon juice, and Dijon mustard.
  2. Gently stir in chopped dill and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Fold in any optional ingredients like minced pickles, onion, or additional herbs if using.
  4. Mix until smooth and well-combined, about 30-45 seconds.
  5. Transfer to an airtight container and chill for at least 30 minutes before serving, preferably 2 hours for flavors to fully develop.
  6. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed before serving.
  7. Serve with fried fish, seafood, crab cakes, or as a sandwich spread.
