Texas Trash Pie with sweet and salty layers

Texas Trash Pie is a gooey, sweet-and-salty southern dessert made with chocolate chips, caramel bits, coconut, pretzels, and more—all baked into a buttery crust. It’s easy, flexible, and wildly delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

  • 1 cup caramel bits

  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs

  • 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut

  • 1 cup pecans, chopped

  • 1 cup pretzels, chopped

  • ½ cup butter, melted

  • 1 (14-oz) can sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 (9-inch) frozen deep-dish pie crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF (175ºC).

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine chocolate chips, caramel bits, graham cracker crumbs, shredded coconut, chopped pecans, and chopped pretzels.

  3. Pour in the melted butter and sweetened condensed milk. Stir until everything is well combined and evenly coated.

  4. Transfer the mixture into the frozen pie crust (no need to thaw).

  5. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.

  6. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before slicing.

Notes

  • Nut-Free Option: Omit pecans and substitute with sunflower or pumpkin seeds.

  • Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free pretzels and graham crackers.

  • Homemade Crust: You can use a 10-inch pie plate with rolled-out dough if preferred.

  • Flavor Swaps: Try butterscotch chips, peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, or toffee bits for variation.

  • Storage: Cover with plastic wrap or store in an airtight container. Lasts up to 3 days in the fridge.

  • Freezing: Wrap the cooled pie tightly and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight before serving.
