Ingredients

Scale

For the salad:

  • 1 head iceberg lettuce
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked, cooled and crumbled
  • 1 1/2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cup red onion, chopped
  • pecans, or walnuts, toasted (optional)

Easy Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing:

  • 1 cup sour cream, light
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 3 Tablespoons buttermilk
  • 3 teaspoons red wine vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
  • 4 ounces blue cheese, reserve a few spoonfuls for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine all dressing ingredients in a medium bowl and stir well. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to develop flavors.
  2. Cook bacon until crisp, then drain on paper towels and crumble when cool.
  3. Wash and dry the iceberg lettuce, then remove outer leaves if wilted.
  4. Cut the lettuce head in half, then cut each half into halves or thirds to create wedges.
  5. Place each wedge on individual plates with the cut side up.
  6. Generously spoon dressing over each wedge.
  7. Sprinkle with bacon, tomatoes, red onion, and additional blue cheese crumbles.
  8. Add toasted nuts if using and finish with freshly ground black pepper.
  9. Serve immediately.
