Spicy Korean Tteokbokki

Authentic Korean street food featuring chewy rice cakes in a fiery, flavorful sauce with beef and green onions.

 

Ingredients

Sauce

  • 6 tablespoon of Shaoxing wine
  • 3 tablespoons of gochujang
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of gochugaru
  • 1 teaspoon light soy sauce
  • 2 cloves minced garlic

Noodles

  • 350 g of Korean rice cakes tteok
  • 4 stems green onions cut into 1cm segments
  • 300 g of sliced beef

Instructions

  1. Soak rice cakes in hot water for 10 minutes, then drain.
  2. Mix all sauce ingredients in a bowl until well combined.
  3. Heat oil in a wok over high heat and stir-fry beef for 5 minutes. Set aside.
  4. In the same wok, stir-fry green onions for 5 minutes. Set aside.
  5. Reduce heat to medium, add sauce and simmer while stirring. Add oil if needed to prevent sticking.
  6. Once sauce thickens, add rice cakes, beef, and green onions.
  7. Mix thoroughly and continue cooking until rice cakes are tender and sauce coats everything evenly.
