Bannock

Traditional Indigenous flatbread that’s crispy on the outside and soft inside.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup water
  • vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Add olive oil and mix with a fork.
  3. Gradually add water until dough almost holds together.
  4. Transfer to floured surface and gently knead about 10 times.
  5. Divide into 5 balls and flatten each with your palm.
  6. Heat oil in a frying pan to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry until golden brown on both sides (2-3 minutes per side).
  8. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
